| There are three hierarchical degrees of chiefdoms: 1st, 2nd and 3rd. A first degree chiefdom is responsible for overseeing a larger area subdivded by smaller chiefdoms. In Bamiléké country there are currently approximately nine 1st degree chiefdoms and about 90 chiefdoms with second degree status. 1st Degree Chiefdoms:
