Bamiléké society is hierarchical. Society may be divided into 4 social classes:

1.) The chief

2.) Direct descendants of the chief; aligned with the kingdom in power

3.) Advisors to the chief, notables, priests or traditional doctors

4.) The common people, some may be members of secret societies
